The Pioneer Festival is being hosted in Florida. They needed a brand and a logo to be the face of the festival and to capture local attention.
Brand Requirements
The people behind this festival wanted to incorporate the following in this brand:
They wanted to have a badge style logo.
Colors needed to reflect Florida.
Incorporate orange blossoms, a rooster, strawberries, sun, and palmetto fronds.
Wanted a bold font that stood out.
Brand Requirements
I went through a few sketches before landing on this design:
I settled on using the tips of the palmetto fronds to symbolize the sun. The fronds themselves were very detailed and lead to a readability issue if used in their entirety.
As this was a "Homesteading" festival, I wanted to showcase not only the fruit that was grown, but a lively animal that you can find in most areas of Florida, the Rooster.
The color scheme spoke to the sunny days of Florida, followed by the oceans. I wanted the palette to be a bit more muted as I felt that would align with the homesteading theme more than overly bright colors.

This brand was a lot of fun to develop and went through quite a few alterations. The above three items were heading down the right track, but ultimately lead to printability and readability issues. The final version prints well, is easy to read, and allows you to discern the symbolism easily without it feeling too crowded or overwhelmed.
